Essex Crystal is a really special art form. Rock crystal is reverse carved and then painted inside the carving, so that when viewed from the front, it creates a three dimensional coloured picture. The Victorians loved to wear this in jewellery, often depicting animals. 
This ladybird was originally an antique cufflink which had later been really badly gilded. We have stripped it back to the original mount and lovingly converted it I to a pendant. 
The gold is a rosy colour, as is often found in Victorian jewellery.
